Thank you for stopping by my page. This is a great place to find out more information about Social Studies, and our exciting curriculum on ancient civilizations! This year, students will investigate the emergence, expansion, and decline of civilizations and societies from the early beginnings of world history, to the Age of Exploration. Together, we will discuss and analyze how political, economic, and social systems have changed in various societies throughout time.
Through higher-level questioning by myself and their peers, students will engage in a wide variety of activities including research tasks, learning centers, computer simulations, online discussions, customized presentations and much more! As a class, we will journey throughout the world and throughout time, to make connections between ancient civilizations and the cultures of today.

Who is Mr. Sproul?
I am a father of two and have been teaching for fifteen wonderful years. I attended Centre College of Kentucky through an R.O.T.C. scholarship and earned a B.A. in History and a B.S. in Economics. When I graduated, I moved to Washington D.C. I began working for Senator John Warner of Virginia as a legislative correspondent and liaison to the Armed Services Committee. At the end of Senator Warner's term, I returned to Charlottesville and began working at Crestar Bank as a Customer Service Representative. While my time at the bank was rewarding in many ways, I was not fulfilled. I decided to follow my passion and accepted a position directing a high adventure program and working as a whitewater guide on the New River which I balanced by working as a snowboard instructor during the winters. It was during this time that I became aware of my interest in teaching and working with young people. I enrolled in graduate school in Education at the University of Virginia. I earned an M.Ed. and Ed.S. while working at the Blue Ridge School and later the Commonwealth Center, a state psychiatric hospital for children and adolescents. Upon graduation, I began working as a teacher in Charlotte, first as a middle school teacher and later as a high school teacher. Over the years, I have taught 6th -12th graders in many different areas including: A.P. and standard U.S. history, world history, modern European history, social studies, government, law, economics, psychology and current events. I am so pleased to be teaching 6th grade again and to be working with such a great group of students. Thank you so much for the opportunity. I know it is going to be a great year.
If you wish to reach me, the best way is through email. My email address is [email protected]. My classroom is 606. I am willing to meet with students throughout the week, but my official tutoring sessions are Thursdays, before school at 8:15. Please notify me at least 12 hours in advance by email if you plan to attend.
